You can quickly get a quote on our site by answering a few basic questions about yourself to get an idea of how much your monthly premiums could be. However this is an estimate based on the info you provide in the quote tool. When you submit your application, it’s sent to an underwriter whose job it is to review your information and to calculate the cost of insuring you. Your cost is based on a number of factors, including the term length you select, your medical history, health, age, and lifestyle. You can read more about the underwriting process and how your final price is determined here.
With Ethos, you can apply for life insurance in just minutes. Upon completing the application, some applicants are approved instantly for coverage! Otherwise, our underwriting process usually only takes about 7-10 business days to complete. Most people don’t even need a medical exam. But if we do require one, it will always be free of charge and completed as quickly as possible.
The time it takes to underwrite and issue a policy depends on the complexity of your health and lifestyle, but can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Making amendments to your application, waiting on health records from your doctor’s office, and requests for a high coverage amount are common situations that can delay the underwriting process.

The underwriters occasionally do have additional questions or need to review additional information. This is no cause for alarm, it just simply means they need more clarification on certain points.
Absolutely not. You may choose to withdraw from the process at any time without penalty. The Docusign after you have completed all the application questions is simply confirming that the information listed is correct and that you give permission for us to send it over to the underwriters.
Once you submit your application our underwriters will review to assess your health, financial wellness, and lifestyle. If there is anything we may need from you we’ll make sure to keep you updated along the way. Once you’re approved, one of our licensed agents will reach out to discuss how everything came back (or discuss your application results) and find you a policy most suitable for you and your loved ones. To expedite the process, look for emails from Ethos and ExamOne (A Quest Diagnostics Company) and respond to those as quickly as you can.

Your final approval rating, also called your classification, risk class, or risk group, is how underwriters determine how much coverage can be offered to you and at what cost. Your rating class is determined based on a few factors including your current and past health, height and weight, family health history, lifestyle, and more. You can read more about classifications and how they’re determined here.
If your birthday occurs during the application process, you will have the option once approved, to move forward with backdating your policy to your birthday at a lower premium or moving forward with the current date of your policy, at a slightly higher premium. An agent will reach out to you once approved with these options.
Our agents take into account any loans or liabilities you may have, income replacement (10-12 x your income), final expense costs, and any education plans for children.
There is no waiting period. Once approved, you'll have a conversation with an Ethos agent about your policy details before being charged your first premium. Once the first premium is charged, you are fully covered.
We ask that you create an Ethos account using your email address so that we can protect the private information you submit during the application process.
Applying for a life insurance policy with Ethos will not affect your credit score. We run something called a soft credit check, which will not change your credit score.
Nope! A Ethos term policy has a set price and does not become more expensive as you age or if your health changes. Once you accept your offer, your price will remain the same throughout the entire duration of your term. However, you do have the ability to adjust your coverage at any time.
We ask for sensitive information during the application process because we underwrite our term policies in real-time. We ask all of the necessary questions up front so that we can expedite the process as much as possible. We ask for your Social Security number, Driver's License, and credit card to help verify your identity and prevent fraud. This is a standard requirement of the underwriting process regardless of where you shop for life insurance.
We ask for your income to help determine the amount of coverage you are eligible for. This also helps us find the right coverage for you once you are approved.
