The Ethos story

Many folks who previously worked in life insurance said that a business like Ethos could not succeed - that life insurance was too complex to make digital, the risk too large to make underwriting instant, and too unapproachable to offer without aggressive sales agents. ​Ethos has accepted these challenges, proving these assumptions wrong through developing our product. Our NPS score (a measure of customer satisfaction) is typically in the mid-80s, compared to the industry average of 4. We’re able to overcome these challenges by distilling complexity, building awesome consumer experiences, and working smarter.


The team has​ been on quite a journey over the last few years since Peter & Lingke co-founded Ethos Life together. In 2016, we grew from a team of 5 to 25. In 2018, we secured series B funding and upgraded from a makeshift office in a loft apartment to a bigger office in the North Beach, San Francisco. We sectioned off a corner of the office and built a wall using giant Legos in order for our Engineering Team to have a more quiet space and it later turned into the Customer Operations Team Castle.

In 2019...

We quickly outgrew our office and moved to a new space in SoMa. Our headcount skyrocketed from those 25 employees all the way up to 100. We set revenue records, launched new partnerships & products, secured our Series C funding, and opened offices in Austin, Texas & Singapore.

And now?

Like it has for everyone, 2020 has brought us many challenges. Our team may currently be 100% remote, but we feel stronger than ever. We’re getting to know our teammates better through virtual lunch rooms, happy hours, trivia nights, & game nights. We made Forbes’ Top 50 Fintech and we’re still pushing our goals, proving that we have an incredibly flexible and reliable team. And best of all...we’re hiring!

Ethosaurs work across three home offices: San Francisco, Austin, and Singapore. We're made up of horseback riders, legacy boxers, rock climbers, trivia-enthusiasts, book club-ers, and more!
